Fleeing Violence

I am gonna attempt to parallel escaping Violence in Nigeria and seeking refuge to what has been happening here in the USA. It might be a bit of a stretch or even a total fail but bear with me for a moment. "Escalating attacks by Boko Haram militants have forced 30,000 people out of Nigeria's northeast into Cameroonian borders over the weekend, the UN Refugee agency said on Tuesday. Thousands have also fled to neighboring Cameroon and Chad in recent weeks, the agency said. Hostilities have strained humanitarian operations and forced aid workers to pull out from some locations, and the destruction of livelihoods and infrastructure is widespread, UNHCR spokesperson Babar Baloch said at a press briefing in Geneva. The recent upsurge in violence has also driven more than 80,000 civilians to seek refuge in already crowded camps or in towns in Borno State, where they are surviving in tough living conditions, Baloch said." Due to violence in Nigeria, there have been thou

Journalist Shot Dead

Thursday January 17, 2019 a journalist who uncovered corruption in soccer in Ghana was shot dead. Hussein-Suale, the journalist, worked for Tiger Eye PI, which was an investigative journalism organization. Hussein-Suale had been receiving death threats after he published work on a documentary that exposed bribery and corruption in the African soccer organization. Hussein-Suale's investigation on the organization lead him to the resignation of the head of the Ghana Football Association. " Agyapong, a member of Ghana's ruling New Patriotic Party, can also be heard in the video offering to pay for anyone who attacks Hussein-Suale." https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/17/africa/ghana-undercover-journalist-ahmed-dead/index.html

Mass Shooting in Kenya

An attack at a hotel in Nairobi occurred Tuesday night killing at least 21 people.  In the surveillance footage, it is said that you can see the moment of the attacker detonated a suicide vest in the foyer of the hotel.  It left a cloud of smoke and all you saw where people running and your could hear gunshots and explosions. Among those that lost their lives was American Jason Spindler.  He survived the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. "The attack lasted for hours.   The coordinated attack started Tuesday afternoon as an unknown number of gunmen attacked the complex, leading to a standoff that continued through the night, with people trapped in various parts of the buildings hours later. Security camera footage showed at least three armed men, dressed in dark clothing and with their faces uncovered, moving through the compound." https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/16/africa/kenya-hotel-complex-terror-attack/index.html

Falsified Election Results?

On January 9, 2019, the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed a new president.  However was the winner the one who the people thought would be their leader?  Not in the slightest.   The winner, President Felix  Tshisekedi was not the front runner in this election especially when in comparison to  Martin Fayulu who was running against Felix and who was in favor to win the election. According to the New York Times " Mr. Tshisekedi had not been seen as the top vote-getter; he was declared the victor on Thursday amid speculation that his campaign had reached some kind of a power-sharing agreement with the Kabila government." And according to BBC News, " No-one could have imagined such a scenario whereby an opposition candidate would emerge victorious."  Does any of this sound familiar in the slightest? Or perhaps am I just trying to reach a comparison to try and make this more political than it already is?  https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-46827760 https://www
